Assistela setup

Basic setup

The minimum working setup is one default AI account. Add email, calendar, and permissions according to what Assistela should do.

1. Choose an AI connection

Open Assistela and choose Assistela β†’ Settings from the Mac menu bar. Then open AI Accounts. There are three common options:

Assistela Managed

Sign in to Assistela Portal and activate a managed AI account without entering an API key manually.

B

ChatGPT subscription

Connect your ChatGPT account with a code on the OpenAI website. This is not an OpenAI API account.

C

Your own LLM provider

Enter an API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, or another supported provider.

2. Verify the default account

Select the account on the left

Under Settings β†’ AI Accounts, click the account you want the main chat to use.

Check its status

The account must be enabled. After saving, click Save and check account and wait for a message confirming that the connection works.

Make it the default

If the account is not already marked as default, click Set as default.

Send a message

Close Settings, open Chat, and send a short test. A reply confirms that the minimum setup works.

3. Add useful services

This is not required for chat. For a typical Apple user, two sources are a useful starting point:

  • Email: Settings β†’ Email β†’ + β†’ macOS Mail. Select the mailboxes Assistela may use.
  • Calendar: Settings β†’ Calendar & Reminders β†’ macOS Calendar. Select calendars and a default calendar for new events.

When you enable a source, macOS asks for the matching permission. Do not grant unrelated access β€œjust in case.”

Checklist

  • The AI account is enabled, checked, and set as default.
  • Chat answers.
  • Enabled services have a specific scope selected, such as mailboxes or calendars.
  • Only the permissions required for those services are enabled under Settings β†’ Permissions.
