Files and documents
Files collects attachments, downloads, generated documents, screenshots, backups, and temporary Assistela data.
What you find under Files
Open Files in the sidebar. The overview shows total size, item count, largest category, unlinked files, and the latest cleanup. You can search, filter, and sort by name, date, size, or category.
Categories can include attachments from Chat, iPhone, Telegram, and email; browser downloads; generated documents; screenshots; app reports; backups; temporary files; and browser data.
Normal file work
Find the item
Use search or a category filter such as Generated documents.
Open it
Open launches the default app. Show in Finder reveals the actual location.
Check its state
An available file is on the Mac. A missing item only has a record, an unlinked item no longer has a matching app reference, and a protected item cannot be removed by normal cleanup.
Clean up known items only
Select specific old files or temporary data. Before bulk deletion, apply a filter and inspect the list.
Attachments and generated documents
- A file attached in Chat remains stored locally so Assistela can work with it.
- Open a generated document directly from the answer or later from Files.
- The Browser stores downloads in their own category.
- Deleting a local file does not necessarily delete the original Chat message, but its file link may no longer work.
Files shows working data on this Mac. A backup is a separate verified ZIP for recovery or transfer. Create a backup before a large cleanup.
Safe cleanup
- Temporary data is normally the safest first choice.
- Unlinked files should be inspected in Finder; they may be unused, but their content can still matter.
- Backups should remain until you have a newer verified copy elsewhere.
- Leave protected items to the app.
Removing a file can be irreversible. Check its name, preview, and location before confirmation, especially for a bulk selection.
